My Collection
Like any Marilyn collector – or collector of anything, I love looking at others collection. Mine is no where as large as some, but I want the opportunity to share my photos and stories of my pieces. I have bits all about my house, if I ever get the chance to get a house with a spare room and/or study I’d love to have a room with all my collection in it. I haven’t got photos of everything, but here are a few and where I got them from.
Dolls; These are some of my newest things into my collection which I have placed up above my curtains in my room. I really adore the Barbie’s that have come out (esp compared to the ugly dolls that were put out in the 80′s) – I am missing the new Golden Dreams Barbie which I hope to get soon which will complete the collection. There is also a Barbie that is a limited collectors edition, that isn’t Marilyn but seems based on her role in Something’s Got To Give which I wouldn’t mind having too. On the end I have 3 bobble head dolls which I think are just cute – I like the boxes too. I also own a Franklin Mint doll (not pictured) – Lorilee in the pink Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend dress. She isn’t mint, just on a stand and is missing her neck jewels – I picked her up on eBay on day pretty cheap – she stands next to my TV in my bedroom with some other bits and pieces.

My Book Shelf; Lots in here! Books are my all time favorites. You can read more about my book collection in the ‘BOOK’ section of my site. Here in my room I have an old book shelf where I have my books, wine glasses, jigsaw puzzles, DVDs, trading cards and other little bits of Marilyn pieces. On the top I have my glasses (including some new wine glasses I got for my birthday from my friend Mez!) and a traveling hat case which I found at a Reject Shop (in Australia).
I have all my DVD’s on the top shelf and I think I have almost all of her films now and a empty bottle of Chanel No5 which was never in Marilyn’s hands but a cute reminder of her.
2nd row is books starting with reference ones on the left and biographies on the right. In the middle I have a “Lets Make Love” promo clock I found for $5 on eBay one time. I also have some trading card boxes. My trading cards are in an album but I cant bare to throw out the original boxes either!
3rd row we have my jigsaw’s of Marilyn. 2 of these are the mosaic types – small pictures to make up one big one – they are so hard to do! If I ever can get one done I will be framing it! I have large photo books here, along with my trading card album and a folder with magazine clippings and articles. I collect vintage articles (earlier than 1962) but I try to get them in whole magazine form [pics coming soon]. I have a Marilyn print mag there which I admit I think these are cheesy and I don’t use them, but this one has magazine covers all over it and it’s cute to just sit there. I have a piece of Marilyn fabric which I adore. A customer of mine bought it into me for Christmas 2010 – I was so pleased – one cos I love it and 2, this wasn’t even a regular customer of mine at work and we had a Marilyn conversation one day and she just saw it and thought of me and got it. Aww!
Bottom row are my photo books – lots of favorites including Marilyn Monroe; The Life The Myth which is the most expensive Marilyn item I have bought I think setting me back around $180 AUD. There are lots of others in here, but you can read more about them in the ‘BOOK’ section.

Frames; I have a lot of photos around my house. I love it. This photo to the right of Marilyn in New York putting on make up was one of my first Marilyn photos I had framed and up. It was given to my by my boyfriend at the time as a birthday present when I was turning 23. I’m a make up geek myself, so this photo I really love. It’s quite large (poster size) and lives in my lounge room. My plan is to find more photos in the set – smaller ones and have them in black frames surrounding the large one.

These 3 are more of my favorite pics (OK I have like 50 favorite pics!). First and third photo are beautiful Sam Shaw pics – these are posters I bought for $2 each at Cheap As Chip and then frames were $28 – not bad for a total of $30 each! The beach one is in my hall way and the New York one is in the kitchen. The second photo of her on the beach was bought by a friend of mine from an antique shop – it’s a bit of an 80′s style poster/frame but I love this early beach shot of her. Its in my kitchen too!

These 2 photos are from my what I call “White Room” and my lounge. My white room has my fridge, washing machine, pantry and a make up area – along with white walls (hence the White Room) and I have these Marilyn canvas’s around my make up mirror. When I bought them I really wasn’t sure about them, but I like where they are and think they look nice. I got them from The Reject Shop.
The second photo is from my lounge room – as you can see Marilyn is mixed around between other family/friends photos. My aim would be to fill a wall of photos – not just Marilyn, but defiantly have her featured in there! You can see 3 of Milton Greene’s Ballerina series which was some of the first photos I found and was amazed by. These are actually calendars that I have taken and framed. I have HEAPS of old calendars and I just hope the right shots come in them because they are perfect to frame! I would ove to get 3 more shots and have them together.
More Coming Soon!
